UK Corporate Brands – page size guide

A handy page-size guide for corporate branding of internal and external communication design in the UK

As a marketing and brand agency, we speak about page sizes a lot! The page size defines how we design, what your print costs, or how your digital marketing looks. We have put together an A4 size guide to help you keep note of the ideal size for you!

Page sizes differ in different parts of the world, most noticeably from the US and the English system. A prime example of this is A4 versus US letter.  It’s important to know what size you use in your region – your design agency should be able to recommend the best option based on your target region.

As a UK-based corporate branding agency, we generally use the A page sizes.

The ISO size A standard is based on each size being half of the size of the previous one, when folded parallel to the shorter lengths. This system allows for a variety of useful applications, such as the enlarging and reducing of images without any cutoff or margins, or folding to make a booklet of the next size down.

A quick reference guide to the A sizes is:

A0 = 841 x 1189mm
A1 = 594 × 841mm
A2 = 420 × 594mm
A3 = 297 × 420mm
A4 = 210 × 297mm
A5 = 148 × 210mm
A6 = 105 x 148mm.

If you find this confusing when planning your page size, here is a quick tip on how to envision/choose the size you want.

  1. Take a standard A4.
  2. Fold it in half (fold long side down) and this will make an A5 page – this works well for flyers.
  3. Fold it in half again, and this will make an A6 page – this is a standard postcard size.
  4. Place two A4 pages next to each other and this makes up an A3 page. A3 is a great size for internal noticeboard posters.
  5. Double this up (i.e. add two more pages above) and you’ll get an A2. A2 is a great option for posters in the work environment – they are large, but not large.
  6. This can be repeated again for A1, and again for A0. A1 is ideal for large office posters and A0 will give you movie-size posters.
