Meet the team: Tannah
Our meet-the-team series is for you to get to know our team members a bit more.
Hey Tannah, we'd like to get to know more about your role at Halo
What’s your job title
I am a Multimedia Designer.
What sort of duties do you have at work?
I can work across a variety of mediums – graphic design, video editing, web design, writing, social media, animation and illustration. This means that no two days are the same, and for a creative brain like mine, this is heaven.
What inspires or excites you, and why?
Pinterest. I can easily get lost down an eternal rabbit hole finding designs I like, quotes that move me, funky patterns, you name it. And the best part? You don’t get distracted by comments and likes, which makes it a surprisingly productive social media app.
What is your #1 tip for your clients?
Take a step back to remember the bigger picture. What do you want to say? Who are you saying it to? It’s easy to get lost in the details.
What’s your go-to productivity hack?
I’m a member of the ‘writing lists’ committee. Having a visual organisation system helps my very visual brain to get things done.
What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation?
Making impactful brands.
What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?
I’m focusing on honing my video editing skills. It is such a unique way of expressing your creativity and it’s incredibly rewarding when you get it right.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
While I was studying, I was selected as a Design Indaba 2020 Emerging Creative. I got to go to Cape Town to attend the Design Indaba weeklong event and exhibit my work at their exhibition.
During my working life I feel incredibly fulfilled when I see any of the brands I’ve created out and about in the real world. There have already been a few so my cup is full!
If salary weren’t a factor, what job would you do?
I have an intense passion for people. I’d love to go volunteer in countries that need help or go a step further and start my own NGO.
Tell us more about you outside of work…
Where are you from?
I am a Durban girl, born and bred. It suits me well; I love being showered in sunlight all year round. It’s an instant mood booster.
Do you have a nickname, and how did you get it?
Over the years, I’ve picked up a few nicknames. One common one has been “T Dawg,” I guess it just sounds cool. Others include “Qhakazile” and “Tenacious T,” these might speak for themselves.
At home, my mom calls me “Tannah-Belle” which is a playful twist on Tinkerbelle. She found out that my name means “fairy queen,” so she likes to use it wherever possible. I had pink fairy stickers on my bedroom walls for many years.
What wouldn’t we know about you, just by looking at you?
That I’m writing a novel! Reading has always been something I enjoy, and share with my mother, so I wanted to give it a crack, but it’s mainly just fun.
Cats or dogs (or neither?)
Cats all the way. They just have their own unique, admirable qualities. My cat is called Indigo, although I like to call her little Bean, my love or Bug.
What’s your favorite word in the English language?
Periwinkle. Not only is it a great colour and flower, it’s also fun to say.
The best piece of advice you were ever given was …
Do what makes you happy and enjoy every minute of it.
What kind of music do you like?
I don’t stick to one specific genre. If either the rhythm, lyrics or both speak to me I will add it to my playlist. However, I will also butcher a song by playing it repeatedly in one sitting until I hate it. In those cases, I’m the problem.
Do you like travelling? If so, what’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?
Absolutely. I am a little bit obsessed with the Netherlands. (I can even speak a bit of Dutch!) I was fortunate enough to visit the country in 2023 and rode around in the bicycle lanes (they are very terrifying, even though I’ve known how to ride a bicycle since I was twelve.)
I have also been to Barcelona in Spain. It felt like being home with all the sunshine and the food was to die for.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate and pasta are my ultimate weak spots. Use this information carefully.
Are you able to keep a secret?
I most definitely can. I am very loyal to those that I love, but if the secret is potentially harmful, I don’t think I can keep it.
