Meet the team: Kay
Our meet-the-team series is for you to get to know our team members a bit more.
Hey Kay, we'd like to get to know more about your role at Halo
What’s your job title
Administration and Finance.
What sort of duties do you have at work?
At work, my duties include acting as a bridge between the creative studio and the finance department to ensure smooth collaboration and efficient communication. I also focus on organising and managing data, making sure everything is up-to-date and easily accessible for the team. Additionally, I handle various tasks around the office, such as coordinating maintaining records, and assisting with day-to-day operations to help the workplace run smoothly.
What inspires or excites you, and why?
I’m inspired and excited by learning new things and discovering fresh ideas—it’s like opening a whole new world of possibilities. I also thrive on pushing myself out of my comfort zone. It’s challenging, but its where real growth happens, and I love the feeling of achieving something I didn’t think I could do.
What is your #1 tip for your clients?
My #1 tip for clients is to prioritise open and clear communication. It’s the key to understanding each other’s needs, avoiding misunderstandings, and building a strong, successful partnership.
What’s your go-to productivity hack?
My favourite productivity hack is the 5-4-3-2-1 method. Whenever I catch myself overthinking or procrastinating, I count down from 5 to 1 and use it as a mental reset to take action right away. It’s a quick and simple way to push past hesitation and get things moving.
What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation?
Self-Improvement.
What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?
One professional skill I’m currently working on is time management. I’m learning to break tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, set realistic deadlines, and prioritise what’s most important. I’m also experimenting with different tools and techniques, like time-blocking and creating daily to-do lists, to stay organised and maximise productivity throughout the day.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
A work-related accomplishment is joining a company like Halo Media. It’s an environment that aligns perfectly with my professional goals and values, and I’m grateful to work alongside such a talented and supportive team. Being part of a group that inspires growth and fosters collaboration has been incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally.
If salary weren’t a factor, what job would you do?
Something to do with travel.
Tell us more about you outside of work…
Where are you from?
I’m from Durban, South Africa, and I had the unique experience of growing up on both the South Coast and in Durban itself. I’ve had the best of both worlds—experiencing the hustle and bustle of city life while also enjoying the calm and peacefulness of small-town living.
Do you have a nickname, and how did you get it?
I don’t really have a nickname since my name, Kay, is already short and sweet enough!

Me and my mane man out for a stroll.
What wouldn’t we know about you, just by looking at you?
One thing you wouldn’t know just by looking at me is how much I love the ocean and marine life—it’s something I’m passionate about. I’m also involved in politics, which is another side of me that people might not immediately see. I’m an avid reader and always eager to learn new things, and I’m a big fan of travel, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures.
Cats or dogs (or neither?)
I’m definitely a dog person! I love their loyalty and energy, and there's nothing like the companionship they bring.
What’s your favorite word in the English language
My favourite word in the English language is resilience. It embodies strength, perseverance, and the ability to bounce back from setbacks. From personal experience, resilience means a lot to me because it’s helped me push through difficult times and grow from them. It’s not just about surviving challenges, but about thriving despite them. Resilience has been a constant reminder that even in the face of adversity, we have the inner strength to keep moving forward and come out stronger on the other side.
The best piece of advice you were ever given was …
The best piece of advice I ever received was the Let Them Theory from Mel Robbins, which I heard on her podcast. It really resonated with me. The core idea is to stop stressing over what others think or trying to control their opinions. Instead, focus on your own growth and actions, and simply “let them”—let people think or say what they want. Embracing this mindset has been liberating, helping me stay focused on what matters and not get caught up in external judgments.
What kind of music do you like?
I enjoy a variety of music, and my taste really depends on my mood and what I’m doing. Whether it’s upbeat tunes for when I need energy, relaxing music when I’m unwinding, or something more instrumental while I’m focused on work, I love switching things up to match the moment.
Do you like travelling? If so, what’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?
Yes, I absolutely love traveling! I’ve been to some amazing places like Greece, the UK, Amsterdam, and New Zealand. If I had to choose a favourite, it’s a tough call between Amsterdam and Greece—both offer unique experiences that I’ll always cherish. Amsterdam has such a relaxed vibe and beautiful canals, while Greece, with its stunning islands and rich history.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure has to be cappuccinos—I can't resist a good one! I also love binge-watching series, especially ones that are totally addictive and keep me hooked for hours. It’s the perfect way to unwind and escape into a different world for a bit.
Are you able to keep a secret
Absolutely, I can keep a secret! I believe in respecting privacy and trust, so you can count on me to keep things confidential.
